Daniel Chong's (b. 1995) installation comprises of the video work I want to be a plant - Chapter I, and the sculptural pieces Bougainvillea form #1 and Bougainvillea form #2. The piece expresses the artist’s yearning to transform into a plant, entities that sometimes receive better care and attention than human beings. Rooted in his experience as a Singaporean, the work explores the tension between the nation's green policies with personal desires, questioning the notion of acceptance and belonging.

“The sound piece for Daniel Chong is made of samples From Music to Grow Plants, by Dr. George Milstein, an album from 1970 whose purpose was just as its title indicates. As Daniel’s work plays with ideas of authenticity, it is fitting that the music on the album is considered “the equivalent of stock photography” which has been placed over a 432 hz frequency said to aid in plant growth”.
