当 (dāng) is a Chinese word that encapsulates the past ( 当时, dāng shí), present (当下dāng xìa), and future (当, dāng). Time is difficult to pin down and is often experienced as fleeting moments. By revisiting plant images taken during her travels, Yanyun Chen (b. 1986) draws on these fleeting memories to create a new connection, turning drawing into a magical recall of moments.

“Yanyun Chen’s shadowy floral image takes me to a space of dense memories seeking to be recovered. This sound piece which I like to think of playfully as “rainy day goth jazz” is meant to imitate such a realm”.

- Kurt D. Peterson on Invocation of Forgotten Flowers
