Overview

From a Time Before… presents the works of Chua Soo Khim, Delia Prvački, Hans Chew, Hasan Zolkifly, Iskandar Jalil, Ng Eng Teng, and others—artists who have shaped the course of Singapore ceramics across generations.

Built on the premise of time, the exhibition reflects on pottery’s enduring nature: its ability to outlast a lifetime, carrying marks of memory from maker to viewer. Clay transforms from soluble to solid, from malleable to permanent, embodying both fragility and strength.

Three forms define the presentation—large bowls, vessels, and sculptures. The bowls evoke gathering and abundance; the vessels, majesty and poise; the sculptures, memory and movement. Through these works, the tactile and temporal qualities of clay reveal themselves, tracing the intimate relationship between the hand, the material, and the passage of time.

From a Time Before… is curated by Dr Pow Jun Kai.
