Overview

The Ever-Shifting Shape presents the work of Emily Dixie Hill, Sean Rohr, and Ariel Dong, three artists in residence at Rumah Tangga, an art space in Depok, West Java.

Each with their own distinct voice, intention, and tone, these three painters have spent the last two months bringing visual life to the residency’s 2025 theme, “Resilient Future”. Of course, one cannot tell stories of resilience without also speaking of loss, grief, oppression, destruction, and decay, but to choose an emphasis upon renewal is an act of agency and strength that not only honors life, but that changes the path of its unfolding.

The artist’s works also all reveal topographies, mapping landscapes that are not only physical, but also mental, emotional, social, and political. In all of their many forms, these topographies are “the ever-shifting shape”.
