A steamy, passionate scene where two bodies come together in union, where carnal desire meets passionate love. The lighter feminine body, sensuous and sinuous wraps itself around a dark masculine body, mass and bulk emphasised.
Affandi sought truth in life through his art. Love, desire and intimacy are essential elements in life. Bold and controversial as they may seem, he saw such a scene as a natural subject of life to depict. Affandi’s erotic paintings are rare to find. He painted them in a short burst of time in the early 1970s but less than a handful have appeared in the market in the past 30 years.
